Breast MRI and Female imaging
The Breast and Female imaging module of the Erasmus Course on Magnetic Resonance Imaging Course (EMRI) will be organised in Wroclaw, Poland from 4 to 6 June 2009.
The course focusses on MRI imaging of the pelvis and breast. The topics of the course include:
- General approach to female pelvis imaging
- MRI in endometrial and cervical cancer
- MR imaging of fetal central nervous system abnormalities
- Adnexal masses
- New developments (elastography, tomosynthesis)
- How to perform breast MRI: technical consideration and post-processing
- MRI and benign lesions
- MRI and ductal carcinoma, CIS, lobular carcinoma, microcalcifications
- The present/future of MR spectroscopy and diffusion -weighted imaging in the diagnosis of breast tumors
- MRI and screening(high risk)
- MRI and prosthesis, MRI Bi-Rads, postoperative MRI, chemotherapy
- Staging and lymphe node imaging
- Breast interventional procedures under MR control.
The afternoon sessions include practical evaluation of cases, discussion between participants and teachers in small groups to acquire a practical flowchart.
This course is a collaboration between the Medical University of Wroclaw (Prof. Dr. M. Sasiadek and Dr. A Chodorowska), the University of Brussels (Prof. Dr. T. Stadnik) and the University of Maastricht (Dr. C. Boetes).
The course will take place in the new Medical University Hospital which is located in the south part of the city. The lectures will take place in the Auditorium Jana Pawla II (lecture hall of the Hospital), the workshops will take place in smaller conference rooms in the Hospital.
Erasmus Course on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (EMRI)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), because of its biological safety in man, plus its superior anatomical display, has already evolved to become one of the most important medical imaging method. Since the cost of MRI equipment has decreased substantially, there is an increasing number of hospitals using MRI. This course aims at providing a common education to the increasing number of European radiologists and of the medial practioners who are using and will use MRI. It achieves this by the implementation of a course for radiologists or non-radiologists, who are interested in MRI and have basic MRI-knowledge. The position of MRI in the daily routine work in comparison to other modalities will be discussed.
An added benefit of the course is to foster understanding and respect among radiologists from the various European countries: teachers of different nationalities learn to work together in forming a common European standard of knowledge and practice, while the students help in disseminating this standard. Although these courses are mainly professional, they also give ample opportunity to the attendees to get in touch with the different social, cultural and historical environments available in Europe.
The number of students allowed per module is restricted. Teaching includes formal lectures, reading sessions, seminars and self-teaching sesions. The students are evaluated at the end of each module. The University organising a module awards a certicicate to the successful students. The Erasmus Course certicicate is awarded to those having successfully completed the whole course, the Neurocertificate is awarded to those having successfully completed the Head & Neck, Central Nervous I and II-modules.
Basic information for application
Professional requirements: Radiologists, MD's and other medical imaging professionals.
Basic knowledge about MRI is recommended. Course language is English.
Standard in MRI
We hope that the meeting of highly motivated students and teachers in a variety of European Universities will result in the creation of a high standard of MRI practice within Europe
